Hi!
I will keep it short this time because i think the pictures say more than the story. To see them, go to my facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.237821169608000.59510.100001403552647&type=3
Three weeks is not a lot of time to see new Zealand, thats what i know by now. We are now in Wellington, and tomorrow morning, after the Rugby final and a (too) few hours of sleep we will take the ferry to the south Island.
In the past few days we have seen Roturua, a place where a lot of sulphur springs erupt, and we did a hike called the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, walking on a live Volcano! In very foggy weather, we walked almost 20km, crossing snow fiels, rocky trails, and climbing high peaks to see the volcano crater. Luckily, when we got near the top, the fog pulled away, so we could actually see the view. It was magnificent to be on that top! (Fun fact: the Lord of the Rings movies were filmed in New Zealand, and one of the volcanoes we walked on was the Mount Doom from the movie. Ow yeah! Only in this time of year it was covered in snow..)
This morning we had lunch on a parking, and Anko left the headlights on for 10 minutes. Normally that should be ok, but i guess our carbattery is not so good anymore, because it wouldnt start. We tried to jumpstart it when rolling down a hill (other traffic passing by at 80km an hour, honking) but that didnt work either. At the bottom of the hill was a farm and a guy that could help us with starter cables. Another adventure we survived!
I also nearly hit an eagle, who was too stubborn to move away from the dead rabbit he was eating on the road.
The scenery in NZ is amazing! It's one long picture book you are driving through. And we still have to go to the south Island, of which most people say its even better.

Tonight is the Rugby final, all of New Zealand is going crazy. I will cheer for France (of course;) ), but i think that when France does win, i'd better stay away from the New Zealanders the next few days!

Oh one more thing: I cut my hair! Should have done it ages ago, its much more practical. Pictures can also be found on facebook! The night before i had it cut, a girl i met in the hostel tried to make braids. You can see the result of that as well :p

Next post will probably take a while, we will cross no big cities the next week. And we heard that the west side of the south island is the most wet of all of new zealand, so we may have dissolved by then!

Cheers, Jelle

    Dad:

    Hi Son,

I had a part of your stuff translated into french by Google Translator. I must be very funny, at least the dutch translation is. May be you know a good judge.

Nothing which has entered into our experience is ever lost...
It's quiet obvious you've embraced this message!
